Precision Drafting & Design was established in 2002 by Rick Jorgenson. After meeting with contractors and builder suppliers, Rick noticed a shortage of independent draftsman in the Fargo-Moorhead area. That meant if you were looking for home drafting services, you were locked in to work with a contractor, architect, or even a building supplier to create a house plan for you. Typically, an architect would charge 10 to 15% of the cost of the new home, or you were “locked in” and required to purchase all building supplies with that specific supplier. Rick decided to create a company that would give the FM customers more personable and affordable options.
Precision Drafting Design helps families design their custom dream home by using an independent company. This gives the family flexibility to bring the plan to as many contractors and building suppliers as necessary to ensure their home is built with the utmost in quality and at the best price possible. The company has now been in business 16 years and will continue to help you, the customer, create the home of your dreams. We take pride in giving everyone who comes through our door, a unique, personable, and positive experience at the starting point of the home building process. We also make it our goal to keep your plans confidential. This means you will not see a home just like yours pop up down the street or next door.
Rick, who has been a member of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) since 2003, likes to meet one-to-one with customers before designing their home to get to know their wants, needs, and ideas. This meeting is scheduled at a time that is convenient for you, the customer, and can be in-person, by phone or even by email.
As soon as Rick has gathered your home wants and needs, he will first design the main floor and will review the design with you. By doing this, he saves his customers the worry and expense of revisions later in the project. Once the main floor has been designed, Rick will move on to design the rest of your home. He will design the remaining floors and will give you a view of the outside elevations. He then recommends that you take your plan to contractor(s) who will give you estimates on the project. This is where it is beneficial to have control of your plans. By going to multiple contractors, you can compare prices and work with who you feel is giving you the best price on your new home.
If all comes in to meet your budget, Rick will finish up the drawings and you will be on your way to building your dream home. If the estimates come in too high, he will go back and revise your design by shrinking the square footage of your home or by changing other aspects of the design. This will be the only time the costs of the design process may go up. The more revisions, the higher the costs. As a rule, the changes do not significantly increase your design costs.
